Essay #1

3. If your mother promised to be home at 2:00 in the afternoon to take you to the movies but did not show up until suppertime and did not even phone, what would be a good punishment for her? Would punishing her be likely to make her be on time in the future? If I was able to punish her, I would make her buy me something that is almost the same as the price of the movie ticket. Usually, if I want something, I beg my mom, but if it is impossible, I give up. But since she didn't keep her promise, she would have to follow my words, because if I make her buy me something that I want, it will be fair for both of us. But as an another thought, I think it wouldn't be a big problem to her, because since she is a 'working mom', there will be a lot of money coming into her hands, she would think that 11 dollars are just nothing, so there is a high possibility that she will make that mistake again and again. One example is that when she goes out to have a meeting with her university friends, she usually promises me that she will come home by 11 o'clock in the night, but until now, she never kept that promise and always comes at least 1 hour after the promised time. I have never thought about the punishment and just let her 'play' to let all her stress be released, so if I would punish her, I would make her buy something that I want, but I think that wouldn't be really effective to her.

If I were to punish her의 표현은 어떨까? (if I was able to punish her도 맞는 표현일 수 있지만, 실제 일어나지 않은 일에 대한 가정이니까 저표현도 좋을 것 같아)

but since she didn't keep "the" promise로promise 앞에 "the"를 붙여줘야 "그" 약속 (모든약속, 혹은 붍특정의 약속이 아닌 특정한 약속을 말하는 거니까 그 앞에 붙여줘야 하고)

11 dollars "is" nothing.

when she goes out to hang out with her colleage friends 로 고쳐서 meet는 단순히 만나는 거고, hang out는 만나서 수다(ㅋㅋ)를 떠는 그런 종류의 약속인 거니까 이럴 때는 hang out 이라는 표현을 써봐.
